Let’s see “Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.” Thus, it is the custom of almost every civilized nation at the meeting time.
On the contrary, in the time of Jahiliyyah, before the revelation of the Holy Prophet (saws), it was customary among the Arabs themselves to utter such words.
Introduction
Hazrat Imran ibn Husain said: When we met in Jahiliyyah, we used to say to each other: May Allah keep you alive. May Allah cool your eyes, and your morning be good and happy.
Then, when the sun of Islam rose, and we came out of the darkness of Jahiliyyah and came to the light of Islam, the Holy Prophet forbade us from it. You have changed the style of saying “assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh”
This means that may Allah Almighty keep you safe and secure from all evil things, calamities, troubles and afflictions. Peace be upon you; be safe and secure from the pain of my hands and tongue, and I am the protector of your life, property and honor.
Ibn Arabi narrated in Ahkam-ul-Quran that The greeter says you are safe from me. Given these facts, Islamic greetings are compared with the greetings of other nations, and it becomes clear that there is no better greeting.
Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh in Arabic
Allah Almighty has instructed In the Quran:
- “And when you are honored with (a word of) greeting, then (in reply) greet with a better (salutation) or (at least) reciprocate (in the same words). Surely, Allah takes account of everything.” (Al-Nisā 4: 86)
- “When you enter the houses, greet (the members of) your (family) with the greeting of peace and security. (This) is a blissful and pure greeting from Allah.” (Al-Nūr 24: 61)

Assalamualaikum Importance
- It is Sunnah to greet, but it is obligatory to respond.
- According to the Sunnah, the salutation and its answer should be sincerely given in the plural form, even if the addressee is a single person.
- Rider to pedestrian, the pedestrian should greet the seated person and the lesser one should greet the more significant number. This command is to attract humility, but it does not mean that we should not take the initiative if these people do not welcome us.
- When you meet, talk and greet before you speak.
- Nowadays, telephones and mobile phones are a substitute for face-to-face meetings and a means of meeting, so the order of greetings for mutual meetings will be the same when calling and picking up. It would be nice to say.
- The one who takes the initiative in salutation has been declared more deserving of nearness and mercy.
- Say the salutation so loudly that the one being greeted efficiently hears the voice. The respondent should respond in the same way so that the respondent can be reached.
- The small group should greet the big group, and the small group should greet the big one.
- If one greets a group, it is enough to respond to one of them; it is better to respond to all.
- Similarly, if more than one person is coming, it is enough to greet only one person, but it is better to welcome all.
- If the greeter greets someone by name or greets someone by addressing them, then he has to answer now.

Conclusion
Now imagine that in a society where people pray assalamualaikum for each other’s safety in the morning and in the evening or at every meeting and provide security and guarantee for each other’s safety, will there be any injustice in this society? Will the truth be killed, and will someone be treated somehow?
Hazrat Ibn Umar used to go to the bazaar and greet the Muslims only. Greet everyone you meet. When asked the reason, he said that there are more people in the bazaar due to need, and we will greet more Muslims and get more rewards.
